Being the youngest

I made this, July 2023, and there's no title for it. I just know that this is worthy of being posted here because I still hold onto my feelings about it very strongly. My relationship with these people aren't great but there's a part of me that wished things were a lot different.

We’re in between the crossfire of war. A myriad of thoughts gone and went as the bullets came flying, and you stood there with a face that told me everything I needed to know. You were only in the middle because your master shut you out. Too selfish, too unforgiving, with a temperament of a dog. Ironically, that’s exactly what you were to him, too. Just a stupid, rabid dog, too loyal for his own good. Even if he kicks you, you wouldn’t even dare bark at him.

Sons are loyal to their fathers. They are bitter and rude to their mothers. Both will either love them unconditionally, or treat them a scapegoat. Daughters are neither, because who are they to have a place at the table? As my brother, you are my half and my ally. As a person, you are my greatest enemy. Relentless, unforgiving, cruel and abusive. You could never betray him; you've pledged your loyalty long before he's even tied you on the leash. I know. You know. We both do. Our glances tell our darkest secrets without moving our mouths.

There is no middle ground to a war. And in this war in particular, there will never be a winner.
